More Trees-More Warming: Tree planting is NOT a climate change mitigating stratergy?

We always prefer and recommend to plant trees expecting trees provide multiple benefits to the society and environment. Yes, this is true. However, recent findings by Harvard researchers emphasized that increasing trees have a surprising effect of altering the environment by increasing temperature in some parts of the world , resulting in changes in rainfall patterns across the globe.

Accordingly, expansion of forest cover is not a viable strategy for climate change mitigation.

They further mentioned that ...............

“There are lots of reasons why planting trees is a good thing and there are many local benefits. But when you think about it as a global-scale climate mitigation strategy, we need to think about what some of the side effects would be.

“The trees would soak up carbon, but the changes in rainfall patterns would cause the Amazon forest to be less productive,” They added.

They concluded with following notion.

“The surest way to mitigate climate change is to reduce emissions directly, rather than trying to plant trees.”
